The Perfect Homemade Chex Mix – made in microwave!

I remember growing up at grandma’s house and waiting, staring at the oven watching the perfect homemade chex mix to finish baking. My brother and I fought over the trays as they finished cooling!

In a world of convenience, sometimes it takes too long to wait for chex mix to bake in the oven. Occasionally, you stumble upon a way to recreate the perfect recipe to be completed in 5 minutes instead what felt like all day. Enter this recipe!

For most people, making chex mix in a microwave results in a torched product that is so burnt it makes your smoke alarm go off. Not this recipe! With this, you can create the perfect crunch and flavor while saving time.

The beautiful part about this recipe is you can adapt it to your taste. Make it mild for the kids, or add a kick of your favorite zesty spice!

Ingredients for Microwave Chex Mix

  • 4 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 cup plain Cheerios
  • Pretzels – 1 cup
  • 1 cup cashews (can sub your favorite nut)
  • 1/4 cup Worchestire sauce
  • 1/2 stick butter (we use plant based Almond milk butter)
  • 1 TBS Garlic Powder
  • Seasoning salt 1 TBS
  • 1 TBS Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • other seasonings to suit your taste!

In a large microwave safe bowl, mix the Chex Mix, pretzels, cheerios and nuts together. If you’re like me and love colorful and cute kitchenware, we love these bowls on Amazon!

In a separate bowl, melt the butter into the Worcestire sauce.

Take melted butter/Worcestire and mix with all of your spices. Pour this into the large bowl with dry ingredients, stir with a silicone spatula until well combined.

Stir the homemade chex mix up well

Take this concoction and stick it in the microwave. Heat for 30 seconds, then stir well. Repeat this process for 5 minutes total time!

Once done, spread out on parchment paper in an even layer and let it cool. Pay close attention to your microwave settings and the mix as your stir because different wattages can affect cook time. Nobody wants burnt chex mix stinking up their house, y’all.

Don’t forget the pretty flowers while the Chex Mix cools off!

While it’s cooling, go pick flowers for your favorite person. Because, you know, it is necessary for any successful recipe!

Once cool – ENJOY! This makes a great holiday gift wrapped up in a mason jar with some ribbon too.
